The three branched chain amino acids Valine, Leucine, and Isoleucine make up one third of all muscle protein. During exercise increased muscle activity results in significant losses of these three branched chain amino acids (BCAAs). Supplementing with BCAAs after exercise helps replace these losses to optimise muscle repair and to maximise muscle building. Pyridoxine is an essential cofactor in amino acid metabolism. Ornithine Alpha Ketoglutarate (OAK) has a number of very beneficial effects; It acts as an ammonia scavenger to neutralise ammonia which builds up during exercise. OAK increases Insulin release. The body can make glutamine from OAK to replace muscle glutamine stores. Muscles supply glutamine to the immune system at an increased rate during strenuous training. This constant drain on muscle glutamine stores can result in deficiency and weakening of the immune system. Supplementing with OAK increases available glutamine and thus supports the immune system. OAK is an essential supplement for animals in strenuous training. These effects combine to help muscles recover from strenuous exercise and to build up muscles to make them better able to cope with ongoing increasing training demands.
