Ascorbic acid, or vitamin C as it is more commonly known, is an antioxidant. As such, it removes free radicals that cause damage to cells in the body. Antioxidants work by minimising the formation of these free radicals. By actively ridding the body of free radicals, Vitamin C helps the horse recover more effectively from illnesses, injuries and viral situations. Vitamin C aids general metabolism and in the formation of red blood cells, it also has a role in maintaining healthy cartilage, blood vessels, tendons and bones in the horse.
